Coach Camp

We're excited to host our Coach Camp in beautiful Oakridge this spring. There's nothing like connecting in person and learning from one another, and we're looking forward to having you join us for this weekend of fun and collaboration.

Who should attend: Anyone starting a new team and/or coaches and team directors looking to level up.

Why: The intent of this event is to bring our coaching community together to learn, share ideas and collaborate on best practices. Some of our coaches have been part of the league since we launched in 2018, some have been involved for a couple years, and some will be experiencing the league as a coach for the first time this year. Everybody has something unique to add to the conversations we'll be having.

Riding: We're working with Cog Wild to set up a shuttle system for those interested in doing some riding, and will have a non-shuttled ride from the middle school on Saturday.

Accommodations: Free camping (with showers) available on-site for tents, RVs, vans, and trailers. Hotels and Airbnb's are available in Oakridge and Westfir.

In addition to the Coach Camp on Saturday, we'll be offering NICA Certified First Aid and On-the-Bike Skills 101 and On-the-Bike Skills 201 clinics on Sunday. Come just for the day or spend the whole weekend with us!

May 3 (Friday)

Welcome to the weekend! Join us from 5-7 for a happy hour with fellow coaches at the Log Scale Shack Cafe.

May 4 (Saturday)

Saturday morning will be full of discussions on how to build community within our teams and throughout the league. After lunch, we'll get on the bike and learn new bike games that can be incorporated into team practices, then head out for some group rides. We’ll end the day with some social time and food at the Log Scale Shack Cafe.

May 5 (Sunday): NICA Certified First Aid and/or On-the-Bike Skills 101 or 201 Clinic

NICA Certified First Aid from 8-10am

Mountain biking is a sport of inherent risks and injuries can happen away from municipal emergency medical services. Our license program meets industry standards for first aid training to ensure NICA student-athletes (and fellow volunteers) receive appropriate care and response when emergencies occur. The NICA Certified First Aid course is a combination of basic First Aid and Wilderness First Aid training that we require for teams practicing in front country and/or urban environments. Completion of this 8 hour course is one of the qualifications you'll need to become a level 2 or 3 coach. This is a hybrid course provided by Adventure Medics; 6 hours will be done online beforehand and the remaining 2 will be in-person on Sunday. Register for the course here.

On-the-Bike 101 Clinic from 10:30-1:30
On-the-Bike 201 Clinic from 8-1:30

The OTBS 101 clinic teaches the progressive steps needed to teach anyone (even yourself!) both basic and advanced mountain biking skills. You will also learn about experiential teaching techniques, how to accommodate different learning styles, and how to create a positive learning environment for young riders. The majority of this clinic will be held outdoors, so please bring your bike and appropriate riding and safety gear for the weather. These clinics will be offered at a discounted rate of $35 (regularly $50).

Scholarships

A limited number of partial and full scholarships are available for those who need financial assistance. Please fill out this form and we'll let you know how we can help!

Lodging

Dirt Series presents
Mom and Daughter Day Clinic

Event description: This mother-daughter event was designed together with the Oregon Interscholastic Cycling League, however it is open all mothers and daughters interested in furthering their riding skills in a fun, low-pressure environment.  This is also a great opportunity to meet NICA team riders and coaches in your area!

The day will begin at Jackson Park in Hood River, where we will have our industry-leading demo gear available to try.  We will also have an assortment of delicious hot & cold beverages, and nutritious snacks.  After everyone is fueled up and introduced to our coaching team, riders will be split into age and ability appropriate groups.

Our morning skills sessions are filled with fun drills, skills and games to build confidence and grow.  After lunch, we’ll gather up our groups and make our way to the Post Canyon trail network to put our new skills into action!  This is where our moms and daughters come back together to enjoy the afternoon rides, under the guidance of our coaches.  Trails are selected based on the skills covered in the morning session – but the name of the game is FUN!  If adult participants prefer to ride with an adult-only group, we can ensure they are matched with a coach and group that meets their needs. This exclusive session is open to female-identifying riders, 11 years and up.

Hood River trails are typically long and flowing, with tight and twisty turns, bridges, and other features conducive to learning. The terrain is perfect for cross-country and all-mountain riders, and suitable for those ready to work on more technical descents.

The cost per participant for the Sunday session is $195. Adult participants interested in a full weekend of skills can also sign up for our Saturday-Only option on June 10!  This is perfect for those riders looking for more in depth progressions.  The cost for Saturday is $295 per adult, however we can provide a 10% discount code for those participants also registered on Sunday.  Please email info@dirtseries.com for your discount code prior to registering for the Saturday-Only event.

NICA Women's Gathering

We have the power to change the way our future generations of girls experience this world. Let’s tap into that.

The NICA Women's Gathering is an immersive event bringing together women to share wisdom, find inspiration, and connect around best practices for being leaders and mentors in the mountain biking world.

Our mornings will include yoga sessions and group conversations, followed by lunch and an afternoon of guided and shuttled mountain bike rides on some of Oregon’s best trails. Attendees will have options to choose between a couple different ride options and we’re confident you’ll be happy with the choices provided. Evenings are a time to recharge and do your own exploration.

This is for you if you’d like to

  • shift the paradigm of the mountain biking world and women’s involvement in it

  • develop yourself as an authentic and conscious leader

  • support other female leaders and find more support for yourself

  • create meaningful impact in your community

  • ride mountain bikes with other likeminded women (of course!)
